Kapila forest is the abode of Lord Murugan

The Muruga Peruman temple in Monarakala district in Sri Lanka has been granted permission to pay this year for Kapilwithi, a rare Siddha forest that has been guarded by the Siddhas for ages.

This famous temple is an ancient open-air wooden temple dedicated to Lord Murugan on the south bank of Kumbukan River in the middle of the Yala Wildlife Sanctuary. History tells us that it was here that Lord Muruga got his powers from penance.

After that, Murugan threw his gold work after completing Surasamharam at Kathirgam, and the veal fell on a tamarind tree, under which Adi Vedars worshiped Murugan’s work.

To get to this mighty temple, you have to cross 12 streams and travel 32 km in a tractor-drawn vehicle to reach the forest.

Even today, Kannur can be seen that the gods, Siddhas, Gandharvas in the form of elephants come to worship Lord Muruga here. It is said that these things are possible only if Murugan graces the rare forest that only few people can visit till now.

It is believed by many that the Navakshari Yantra, the Nava Bhashana Vel, which disappeared after worshiping Lord Bogar at Kathirgam in the beginning, is here. Even today this place is mentioned as Adi Kathirgamam in old Sinhala texts and Maha Vamsa texts.

Historically, it is said that this forest got its name because Lord Muruga appeared to sage Kapila here with his light.

It is said in many texts that Lord Muruga graces the Navakoti Siddhars with the light and the Navakshari Yantra worshiped in Pokhar Kathirkam and all the items such as Lord Muruga’s vel and ornaments are hidden somewhere here. So here it is advised that no one should go to Kapilavanam for fun,

If we plan to visit this holy place, we should be clean in body and mind. Also, at least 21 days prior to the journey, one should abstain from alcohol and meat and observe a strict fast.

Also, due to the spiritual forces in Kapilavana, those who disobey these practices will face many obstacles on their way back home.

It is said that the guardian deity here, Kadavara Kalupanda, came in the form of an Apache elephant and chased away those who did not perform the fast properly, unable to see the holy Tamarind tree.

Especially this Kapila forest is located in the heart of Yala National Park. There are three main ways to visit Block IV and Kapila Vanam at Siambalava Devalaya. However all these routes are in Yala forest.

So, it’s not an easy ride for anyone. This tough drive requires a four-wheeler with accessories like winch, snatch belt, high lift jack, extra fuel.
